Bethany Joy
Bethany Joy is an Indie Soul/Jazz singer-songwriter from Cleveland, OH. Influenced by the sounds of Lianne La Havas, Julia Jacklin, Big Thief and Lake Street Dive, Joy’s style ranges from emotional, hard-hitting indie rock to soulful, dynamic jazz. Her first EP, “All We Really Want”, was released in 2021. Recorded mostly in a small apartment in Cleveland, the songs touch on themes of isolation, independence and conflicts around religion and mortality. While taking virtual guitar lessons during the pandemic, Joy enhanced her playing and wrote a whole new batch of songs showcasing a more complex sound with a stronger jazz influence. Her highly anticipated debut LP “PLANET” will be available to stream September 23, 2022. Joy has opened for a variety of national acts including Marc Broussard, Humbird and Marc Lee Shannon. She has been an active member of her local music community for years, hosting open mics across Northeast Ohio and teaching songwriting in schools and summer camps for Roots of American Music. Her passion project is curating/hosting events geared towards elevating women in the music scene, giving them platforms to showcase their music. Joy also fronted and wrote original music for Thieves of Joy who released their debut EP in 2020. She is also a member of The Speedbumps and can be heard on their 2017 album, “When the Darkness Comes”. For more info on Bethany Joy, find her website: www.bethanyjoymusic.net
